Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre, in coordination with Battle of the
Bards, presents the first annual KWLT Fundraising dinner

An evening of good food, entertainment and music, with all funds
raised going towards the Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre for the
rebuilding of it's theatre.

Bards and KWLT, working together with the Castle on King, are offering
a night of good food, live entertainment and a chance to do something
for the local arts community.  Tickets for this evening are $60 each,
with a tax receipt for $30.  Want to make sure you sit with your
friends?  We have a number of sizes of tables available, with a table
of 4 costing $200.

Doors will open at 5:30 on October 6, with things kicking off at 6pm.
Dinner will be at the Castle; where great beer and fantastic food find
good friends. An old style restaurant and pub with a modern outlook
and a relaxed atmosphere, the Castle is famous for their beer, serving
only the finest ales and lagers from select Ontario microbreweries and
specialty imports from around the world.  It's a unique beer
experience for the true connoisseur, and the food matches the
excellence in the beer, giving a unique style and vibrancy you won't
find anywhere else.

Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre has presented live community theatre
in KW for over 75 years.  Setting itself apart from the rest of the
theatre community, KWLT is an an entry point to anyone interested in
the theatre experience.  KWLT opens its doors to new inexperienced
actors and directors and produces locally written shows.  A large
number of people involved with KWLT in any given year are enjoying
their first acting experience.

On July19th, 2002 our theatre burned to the ground.  In just over 15
hours, portions of our 75 year history were destroyed forever.  Since
then, we have been working through volunteer efforts and donations
towards being able to move back into our home theatre.  Current
estimates with our Rebuild Manager, Chris Rovers, puts the day we can
reopen at 9 Princess St. E. in next spring.  We've worked hard to get
to this point but we know we couldn't have made it without the support
of our community.

Since 2002, Battle of the Bards has provided a venue for performers in
the Waterloo Region to showcase their skills and talents in friendly
competition. In 2008, the Battle of the Bards team began organizing
fundraisers for not-for-profit groups that lack the resources to
produce their own events. Through these functions, Battle of the Bards
hopes to enhance the profile of amateur artistry and entertainment
while giving back to our community. Contact us to arrange a Battle of

I am directing Galt Little Theatre's Festival entry, Gary Kirkham's
'Queen Milli of Galt' for our February production.
Based on a true story, "Milli" is a lovely romantic comedy with a
handy supply of humour. This play is a genuinely witty exploration of
unexpected love. In 1972, the Duke of Windsor (Edward VIII) dies while
living in exile. Two weeks later in Canada, an 80 year-old woman from
a small town named Galt has her tombstone engraved, claiming to be his
wife. Flashback to 1919 as the Prince of Wales visits Canada. Bored
with the pomp and circumstance, he slips away from his official duties
and begins a romance with a charming young woman. Winner of the 2004
Samuel French Canadian Playwriting Contest

Elora Comunity Theatre is looking for 5 or 6 younger (17-22ish) men
for roles in the fall show: You're Lucky If You're Killed. It's a
semi-autobiographical performance about a Doctor from Fergus, and his
experience w/ friends in WW1.

This promises to be a spectacular and moving performance, and

Film Harvest. What is the Film Harvest, you ask? It's a collection of
shorts and clips from independent filmmakers from the Waterloo Region.
There is no cost to enter and you can enter more than one piece.

If you are a filmmaker, or know one, check out or pass along the entry
form attached to this email. Low budget, no budget, comedy, drama,
school project, weekend hobby, all are valid entries! If you made it

AUDITIONS AND PRODUCTION CALL

What: Captain Hook's Revenge by Richard Coleman

Where: University of Waterloo - Room Confirmed - AL 105 (Arts Lecture
Hall, Room 105)

When: September 22, 23, 24, 2008, 7-10pm

You do not need to show up each night, however we may hold call-backs.

Who: We are looking for Actors, Technicians, and Production staff
(publicity, front of house, and general production). The cast has a
wide range of ages available, starting at 18 and up.

How: Prepared audition pieces are not required. Come in comfortable
clothes and be prepared to also provide a singing & stage combat
audition.

In this new take on the classic tale of Peter Pan, Captain Hook plots
his revenge against the young boy with the help of his crew of
enthusiastic but inept pirates. With the help of the Lost Girls and
other Neverland locals, Peter has to find a new wife for the chief of
the Neverland tribe, a mother for the Lost Girls, and save his new
English friends from Captain Hook's fury.

Captain Hook's Revenge is a traditional English Pantomime. An English
tradition for the Christmas season, Pantomime involves wild plots,
memorable characters in colourful costumes, song and dance. Brave
heroes and crafty villains, knock-knock jokes and lewd humour all
combine to make Pantomime fun and friendly for the whole family to
enjoy. Audience participation is strongly encouraged ? lest ye walk
the plank!

Performances Dates: Friday, December 5th and 12th at 8pm & Saturday,
December 6th and 13th at 2pm and at 7pm

Laurier Musical Theatre's 2008 - 2009 annual musical production will be Grand Hotel: The Musical. The production is scheduled to open January 15, 2008 in the Theatre Auditorium at Wilfrid Laurier University and will run until January 17. 
 The MTI website describes Grand Hotel as a story that "Intertwines a cast of eccentric characters through a series of fateful encounters. Passing through the golden light and dark shadows of The Grand Hotel is the fading, still-beautiful Prima Ballerina; the charming young Baron, out of money, riding on his looks; the ambitious Hollywood hopeful; the mortally ill bookkeeper, meeting society before his grave; the honest, hardworking father-to-be; and the doctor, whose cynical tone foreshadows the looming depression." In summation, "Grand Hotel richly contrasts comedy, tragedy, glitz, and realism and is sure to captivate both your actors and audiences."
AUDITIONS are open to all in the community, and will take place Monday September 22nd and Tuesday September 23rd in room ARTS 1E1. Audition sign up sheets are posted on the board directly across from the Campus Clubs office on the 3rd floor of the Fred Nichols Campus Centre on Wilfrid Laurier University campus. For those who cannot come to campus to sign up, please email Producer Kory Preston to arrange an audition time. Greetings one and all

Just a reminder of the September edition of Battle of the Bards taking
place tonight, Friday the 26th at 8pm at the Button Factory in Uptown
Waterloo. WE have a fantastic line-up for you tonight including old
favourites and brand new performers so come check it out!

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door and all proceeds go to
support the KWLT rebuild effort.
