In memoriam: Nadia V. Ursacki

Longtime KWLT volunteer Nadia Ursacki passed away on March 21, 2026 after a long illness.

Nadia has been an integral part of the KWLT community for more than two decades. She served multiple terms on our board of directors in a variety of capacities, including president, box office manager, membership director, and rentals manager. She was our most experienced technician, serving as lighting designer, stage manager, and in other tech capacities for literally dozens of productions at KWLT and across the region. In recognition of her contributions to the community she was awarded a KWLT lifetime membership in 2022.

Nadia was particularly important as a connecting link between different theatre groups in Waterloo Region, having worked with most of them at one time or another as a technician. She believed in community and understood the hard and often thankless work it took to build a strong community, and never shirked from those labours.

In memory of Nadia’s tremendous contributions to KWLT, we will be putting her name on our tech booth, where she spent many long days and long nights getting a show’s lighting just right. Our 2026–2027 season opening production of RENT will also be dedicated to her memory.
