Ordinary Days is a musical that follows the intersecting lives of four people living in New York City. It is about finding beauty in everyday life, and human connection in the aftermath of tragedy. The show centres on two relationships. The first is a burgeoning friendship between fiery Deb and relentlessly upbeat Warren after a serendipitous meeting. The other is a strained romance between Jason and Claire, who are trying to move their relationship to the next level despite Claire’s reservations.
Everyone Welcome
We welcome auditions for all four roles from people of all genders, ethnicities, backgrounds, and levels of singing experience. Our main concern will be vocal range.
Characters
Claire (Mezzo, G3 to E5): A smart and self-possessed woman trying to move on after a deep personal tragedy, but struggling to find the line between a fresh page and an overwrite. In a relationship with Jason. Aged 30s*.
Fun fact: She has a knack for flipping over omelettes.
Deb (Mezzo, G3 to D5): A neurotic grad student in English Lit with big ambitions she will gladly tell you all about… just as soon as she figures out what exactly they are. Becomes friends with Warren. Aged 20s*.
Fun fact: Her Starbucks order is a mocha caramel latte-ccino, made with skim milk, no whipped cream, in a grande cup but with the same amount of coffee that you’d put into a tall.
Jason (Tenor, G2 to Ab5): Your classic rom-com leading man: funny, romantic, architect… if only he lived in a kinder universe. In a relationship with Claire. Aged 30s*.
Fun fact: He doesn’t like Riesling, when have you ever seen him drink Riesling?
Warren (Tenor, G2 to Ab5): An artist’s assistant with boundless optimism and/or naivety, trying to figure out his place in the grand mosaic of life. Becomes friends with Deb. Aged 20s*.
Fun fact: Of all the superpowers, invisibility is the one he’d like to have.
*This age refers to the age of the character only. The actor does need to fit within this range.
