KWLT’s ultimate theatrical competition is back for its 12th year, and we’re looking for production teams to compete!
The idea is simple: several production teams get the same short script and a week to prepare. At the end of the week, the teams’ versions of the play are presented back to back, with audience voting for their favourite and an adjudicator giving awards.
If you’re looking for a quick theatrical hit this March, come join us! March Madness kicks off on Friday, March 7, with auditions on the afternoon of the 8th, tech night on the 14th, and performances on the 15th — you should be available for all of those times, and have lots of time during the week between as well. Email march.madness@kwlt.org to sign up; let us know who’s on your team, their roles, and what your hopes are from your March Madness experience this year. Please contact us by February 28 to reserve your spot.
What makes a production team? A team should have at least a director and a stage manager, but there’s no upper limit to the number of members. We’ve had teams include props builders, musical accompanists, choreographers… whoever you need to implement your vision, you’re welcome to include. (But not actors! Actors are auditioned separately, see below.)
Can I volunteer to be on a team? If you’d like to direct or stage manage a March Madness team but don’t have a counterpart, feel free to let us know — we’ll try to match up solo volunteers to form teams.
I want to act in March Madness! Great! Auditions will be held March 8, 2025, 12–4pm at KWLT. We’ll have more details soon.
I want to be involved, but not on a team. The March Madness Committee is still looking for volunteers to help run the event. If you’d like to know more, email march.madness@kwlt.org and let us know how you’d like to participate.
