Call for participants: KWLT’s Festival of New Works

KWLT’s New Works Collective is organizing a festival to showcase some of the plays, scenes, and monologues that they’ve been writing. The festival takes place August 23–25 at our theatre, and we’re looking for volunteers to take on roles in the production team.

Available opportunities include:

  • Directing: There are fourteen pieces that will be performed as part of the festival, ranging from two-minute monologues to full-length plays and encompassing a variety of tones and styles. The playwrights are looking for directors whose vision for their scripts resonates with their own.
  • Designers and operators: We’ll need people to help manage the technical aspects of the festival: lights, sounds, set, costumes and props. Designers will be working with each of the directors to ensure that their intentions are reflected in the tech.
  • Stage management and logistics: This can be on the scale of an individual play, assisting the director with rehearsals and ensuring that everything is on track; or it can be on the level of the festival, coordinating the various productions and keeping things running smoothly.
  • Producing: The Festival creates some unique opportunities for promotion and advertising, and we’d love to have volunteers who welcome the challenge of marketing this new endeavour.

If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, we invite you to fill out the application form and the Festival coordinators will be in touch. Applications submitted by May 20 will receive full consideration.

Auditions for the Festival will be held on June 16, 18, and 19 at 44 Gaukel Street; more information about that process will be available soon.
