Violist Marlena Pellegrino curates and performs a dynamic program of solo and duo works including an original world premiere for viola and spoken word. She is joined by percussionist Yang Chen and actor and poet Kelsey Rideout.
The ensemble of “contemporary chamber trailblazers” (Boston Globe), Hub New Music makes its Canadian debut. Hub will give Canadian premieres of new works by Daniel Thomas Davis, Jessica Meyer, Angélica Negrón, James Diaz, and Michael Ippolito. Ippolito’s Capriccio rounds out the program and is a three-movement work inspired by the paintings of Hans Hofmann.

Established in 1997, the JUNO nominated Orchid Ensemble is acclaimed as “one of the most adventurous groups uniting Eastern and Western musical traditions” (Georgia Straight). The trio is made up of internationally renowned musicians Lan Tung (Taiwan/Canada) on the erhu/Chinese violin & vocals, Dailin Hsieh (Taiwan/Canada) on the zheng/Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard (Canada) on percussion, including the marimba. The ensemble regularly commissions and premieres new compositions. It has embraced a variety of styles in its repertoire, ranging from Taiwanese and Chinese music, World Music, New Music to Creative Improvisation.
